The Essence of all Wisdom (Cont.)

Moreover the words mean, “Surrender to Me alone,” but Shankaracharya interprets one word as Brahm - “Seek shelter in Brahm.”  And since the soul is Brahm this would mean, “Seek shelter in yourself.” What a wonderful interpretation! I could tell you of many more explanations of his different verses like this, but I do not wish to waste your time. If I had met Shankaracharya I would h...

Genuine Faith and a Genuine Saint

It is only upon attaining some degree of detachment from the world that faith can develop, and it is only then that meeting a Saint will bear fruit. For someone to benefit from a doctor and accept him as such, he must first admit to being a patient. You might say that everyone knows they are a victim of the diseases of lust, anger, greed and so on. That's true, but no one admits it. The few that do feel the need to cure themselves. They accept the Saint as a doctor for their mental diseases and take his medicine in the form of spiritual practice. The rest half-halfheartedly accept the Saint, are careless in taking the medicine and therefore remain deprived of the real benefit of a Saint's association.

Our Beloved Spiritual Master 5 October 1922  -  15 November 2013

A Tribute to Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj

Shri Maharaj Ji, who shed tears in devotion to Shri Radha Rani and moved others to do so, is no more with us in his material form. I met Shri Maharaj Ji way back in 1945 for the first time when I went to Shri Mahabani's residence in Pratapgarh to attend the satsang graced by Shri Maharaj Ji. In those days, very few people knew him and nobody thought at that time that this extraordinary young man would one day grow into a great Spiritual Master, who would guide humanity across the world and provide the nectar of bliss of bhagvad bhakti to all. In those days, Shri Maharaj Ji chanted the mahamantra of hare rama through the night, shedding tears deep in devotion. In the course of highly emotive kirtan, he would go into trance and with tears flowing from his eyes, dance to the tune of hari bol for hours together.

During those days, these night-long devotional chantings of kirtan were held in Pratapgarh at Shri Mahabani's residence and in Allahabad at the residence of Shri Lakshman Swarup Bhatnagar, who was a judge in the High Court. In Allahabad, Shri Maharaj Ji started composing devotional verses which he rendered in his own voice, and thus the rasa of love and bhakti of Shri Radha Krishna began to flow incessantly. Soon those compositions of Shri Maharaj Ji appeared in the form of a great work of devotional poems entitled Prema Rasa Madira. Dr. Ram Kumar Verma, who was then professor in Allahabad University wrote an introduction to this book. There were many other scholars who highly acclaimed this unique creation and appended their comments in praise of the genius of Shri Maharaj Ji . . .
